Overview
This week I got to create, host, and edit my very first podcast. I chose to interview my former boss, Jackie Soladay, from my Paris Mountain Marketing internship. It was neat to learn more about Jackie’s story of creating her own business, as well as her take on the Greenville community’s influence on businesses and female entrepreneurship.

Editing Process
Creating and editing a podcast is much more in-depth than I initially thought it would be, but I learned:
How to ask open-ended, intentional questions
How to properly upload and describe my content on SoundCloud
Make the interviewee comfortable
Space out my timing
Logically flow my ideas to connect to comments from the interviewee
I think that I learned the most about creating a podcast through the editing process. I spent hours going back and trimming unnecessary words like “um,” “and,” and “yeah.” Also, I learned the importance of giving enough of a pause between the speaker and me so that the podcast flows well. I also learned to layer music within the background to my voice, move the clips to different tracks, and ensure high-quality audio.

How to use this in the future
Considering how I want to pursue a career in marketing, I think the editing skills I learned throughout this process will serve me well. I have become a better communicator and know how to ask the appropriate questions logically. This will help me to listen to the client and their feedback and keep up the conversation.
Also, I will most likely be creating visuals and hosting interviews within my marketing career. I was able to sharpen my editing skills through these techniques:
Trimming
Creating novel content
Overlapping sounds
Integrating music
Forming smooth transitions
These skills will make my content sharp and influential among my clients. They will also demonstrate my credibility and professionalism.
