My Brand: A Self Branding Reflection Blog

I think that my passions are: marketing, photography, fashion, cosmetics, and traveling. These interests of mine make up a large portion of my character, and I always find myself eager to experience and learn more about each of them. Additionally, I think that all of these interests are interconnected - marketing encompasses photography, traveling, and brand development for fashion or makeup companies as an example. I would say my strengths are being ambitious, loyal, dedicated, positive, and selfless.

Day in Winston-Salem, NC!

My main goal in the future is to find a career in marketing that works within the fashion industry. I would love to have my own marketing company and live in New York City and be traveling internationally working with new brands. I also would like to be financially free and build my way up to the top. I think that my strengths and interests make me really different because I do not want to work a 9-5 job and live for the weekends. I have found fashion and makeup to be passions of mine, and I am very fortunate to have found that at such a young age. I want to have a job that I am in love with and be fluid with my career- I don’t want to lock myself into one job because I want to explore and have an experience with everything such as writing, photography, or modeling.

I know that I am not a partier or someone who is ill-prepared for any situation - I like to be on top of things and keep my circle small with intentional, genuine friends.

I asked my three roommates, who are also my close friends, how they viewed me. Peyton described me as being a good listener, hard-working, people-oriented, caring, and fashionable. She also said that I am good at making sure that others are in a good headspace, putting others before myself, networking and having motivation to succeed, encouraging others to do their best in all things, and being organized. Peyton described me as being irreplaceable because she said I am dependable to emergency and personal situations and am resourceful.

Trip to Baldrock!

I also asked Katie and Libby to describe me, and they said that I was kind, organized, proactive, hard-working, friendly, and funny. They both agreed some of my strengths are getting things done in a timely manner, good communication skills, studious, and being a diligent worker. Katie and Libby think I am irreplaceable because I am honest and put others before myself.

In six months, I want to be taking more communication courses at Furman and on the side be working with brands for more marketing and brand promotion via my social media, and also be doing another marketing internship. In a year from now I would like to spend a summer in New York City working with the makeup company, L’Oreal, for marketing and social media management. In five to ten years, I would like to have completed graduate school in New York City for marketing and be working with luxury fashion brands like Chanel or Dior with their marketing. I also would like to be doing lots of photography and possibly modeling.

I think that my target audience is young adults, women in particular, who have an interest in style or fashion. I also think my target audience would be young adolescents interested in elevating their self-expression or understanding themselves more through art or the way they dress. Since I live in the south, I think my audience would largely be in the south, specifically with people living in urban areas interested in investing in certain brands.

When I Googled myself, I found my LinkedIn, Instagram, and Facebook posts about me from high school. I also found articles about a woman named Anne McLain who was an astronaut that hacked into her spouse’s bank account. I liked how I found handles to my social media and networking accounts, but I did not like how I found a woman with the same name as me with her crime history posted. I did not find much about myself, and I think I could change this by starting a blog post, being more active on social media, partnering with brands who may sponsor me for their products, and building my own website that encompasses all of my interests.

I also think if I built a website where I publish my name and own the content, if I were to type it into a search engine, more of my content would pull up. Even though I am not associated with the astronaut who has the same name as me, I don’t want my future audience to be confused. I need to clearly lay out who I am and my values via a web page that I own to give my audience the best representation and impression of who I am.
