Beauty Secrets to Science - My Top 3 Media Sites

One day I decided to spice up my routine by switching from doing my homework in the library to a coffee shop. As I sat down and began my work, I noticed a significant change in news consumption sources among the people there. A young woman was flipping through the pages of a Hollywood magazine, and around every corner, someone was scrolling through articles on their computer. Then, across from me, a man held a crinkled newspaper with a pen in his hand. I did a double-take because I thought newspapers had practically gone extinct in our world today.

As I saw people absorbing information through different sources, I couldn’t help but reflect on where I get most of my news and why I actively choose to engage with that source. I fleshed out my top three news sources and why I always return to them.

Cosmopolitan

The online Cosmo website has to be my favorite go-to for beauty secrets, relationship advice, fashion trends, and celebrity insights - all the topics that spark my interest. Not only that, but my friends and I use the articles as conversation starters.

Glamour

The runner-up to Cosmo - I love Glamour because it gives me the latest celebrity, fashion, beauty, and political news relevant to women. One celebrity that comes up a lot is Miley Cyrus, and Glamour wrote an article about her hairstyle and how it has changed over time. This might seem insignificant to some, but the article gave me more insight into her, and what types of hairstyles are trending.

The New York Times

This one source is quite different from the other two. I love NYT because it provides credible, trustworthy news stories that I can learn from and use for academic purposes. I read an article about how eating healthy with moderate exercise is better than going on crazy diet trends. The article had scientific support and researchers analyzing the results from the studies.
